- Circulatory problems or vascular problems can cause abnormal twisted arteries. The peripheral vascular disease or PVD are problems in the blood vessels outside the heart and the brain. Varicose veins are a type PVD in which the veins become abnormally twisted, swollen and dark. However, they lead to swelling and inflammation but not any hearing loss.
