Ginkgo biloba or the maidenhair tree has been extensively used in traditional medicine for curing circulatory disorders and enhancing memory. Scientific studies done through the years have validated the usefulness of this herb. Ginkgo biloba has been found to be one of the oldest living tree species. Its leaves are amongst the most widely studied botanicals in the present times.
This therapeutic herb has been widely used in traditional medicine to cure circulatory disorders and for enhancing memory.
Ringing ears can be caused by certain blood vessel disorders and nerve damage. Research shows that ginkgo biloba is effective in improving circulation. In terms of ringing in the ears, a study had been conducted that showed that the problem totally vanished in 35% of the patients in as less as 70 days.
One of the most appealing aspects of gingko with regard to the tinnitus therapy is that it has negligible side-effects and is relatively inexpensive.
The German Commission, which serves as a good reference for medicinal use of therapeutic herbs, has rated gingko as positive. It has recommended 240 mg of gingko twice daily for ringing in the ears and vertigo. The positive effects of gingko take around 3-4 months to show clearly but there is relief within a few weeks.
Soft laser gingko biloba treatment has proved to be quite effective in the treatment of chronic ringing ears.
Incidentally, there is a difference of opinion about the efficacy of gingko in the treatment of ringing ears. Whereas some of the patients of ringing ears swear by the efficacy of gingko, there are some others who did not get any benefit from the gingko therapy.
The inconsistent response to this herb has raised the concern whether all the gingko preparations are the same or not. The patients who had used the less expensive brands suffered from gastrointestinal disorders. However, when such patients were asked to switch over to some well-known brand then they got rid of the side-effects and got better relief.
The ground reality shows that gingko is not effective in curing ringing ear syndrome in each and every patient. However, since its benefits outweigh the risks so taking a trial is definitely worthwhile.
